Can I take my firearm to work?

It depends on who you work for. If you work for a private employer, they have the authority to restrict firearms on their property. If you are a Virginia executive branch employee, then by executive order from the governor, you cannot bring a firearm into the workplace. If you are a federal government employee, you likewise are prohibited from bringing a firearm into the workplace.

If you work in a federal or state courthouse, you are likewise prohibited from bringing a firearm into the premises. If you work for a local government, they can adopt workplace rules that can prohibit you from bringing your firearm into the workplace. However, they cannot restrict you from bringing a lawfully-owned firearm in your vehicle, as long as it’s properly stored.
