The following is a video transcript.
The myths surrounding “common sense gun control” start with something very simple: the terms and phrases the anti-gunners have coined. Today, we’re going to get to the “real talk” behind the propaganda.
Assault Weapons
Assault Weapons: This one is easy. There is, quite simply, no such thing as an assault weapon. It’s not a legal term of art, and it’s not an industry term. You can bet when a gun control advocate uses this term, they are referencing any kind of modern sporting rifle. Get ready to start hearing this term used interchangeably with the newly coined anti-gun phrase “weapon of war.”
High Capacity Magazine
High capacity magazine: Like “assault weapon,” there is no definition of what constitutes a high capacity magazine. Pending federal legislation, and some state laws already in existence, would have you believe that any magazine that can accept more than 10 rounds should be outlawed as a high capacity magazine. Of course, gun owners all know that this would criminalize most factory magazines in rifles and handguns alike.
Machine Gun
Finally, one that is often tossed around to inspire fear: Machine gun. A “machine gun” is simply a fully automatic weapon. A weapon is fully automatic if, with one trigger pull, more than one round of ammunition is discharged. Fully automatic weapons are highly regulated through the National Firearms Act, and are incredibly expensive and difficult to come by, since the manufacturer of new full-auto weapons for civilian ownership has been banned since 1986. The gun control advocates would have us believe that a “machine gun” is any kind of AR platform rifle, and that machine guns are responsible for a high percentage of crime, but that is simply not the case.
Don’t get tongue tied by the anti-gunners terms. If you have any additional questions about this topic call U.S. LawShield and ask to speak to your Independent Program Attorney.
I appreciate you up to date info!
This was very informative thank you
Right, no such thing as an’assault weapon.’ So wouldn’t it be better if we stop using the term ‘weapon’ when we really mean ‘firearm?’
I take my firearm to the range, not a weapon.
You are right on the money. However, you forgot one very important point. The anti-2A people now refer to it as common sense gun “safety”. They think changing the wording will hide their real goal of gun control/confiscation. What idiots!
You are the weapon…everything else is a tool.
I will still use the term Assault weapon because the AR 15 and AK 47’s are meant for one thing only, to kill humans. I am a 2 tour 90% Vietnam disabled veteran and I should not be allowed to own one of these weapons with a 30 round clip. I am a gun owner and believe in the Second Amendment. But I would vote to banish these weapons off the market period.
Good brief analysis – unfortunately too many (supposedly) on the pro-gun side are far too guilty of misusing terminology – think clip and magazine.
BTW – josh sugarmann ‘invented’ (some 30+ years ago) the term ‘assault weapon’ with the specific intent of using it to confuse people – it has succeeded far beyond his wildest dreams
2A says, “shall not be infringed.”
How can anyone say that they support the second amendment except for this or that. Isn’t that the same as don’t support it at all??
You can tell the guy at 1:30 has never held an AR before. Can’t even charge it lol
Concise and very well explained.
AR got turned from ARmalite. Libtard anti gun morons just turned it into Assault Rifle.
politiCONS will twist anything to fit their left wing agenda..
For every bad guy with a firearm, give me a good guy to neutralize him. Semper Fi
Don Dickson… first, thank you for your service. second, ar 15s and AK 47s and their like are sporting rifles, not assault weapons. In fact, some states allow their use for hunting. They are also excellent home defense weapons. And, by the way, it’s a magazine, not a clip. Stop straddling the fence and stand up to the anti gunners.
I totally agree with Veteran Don Dickson’s comments here. I furthermore resent the politicizing of this issue on this website. Look, we’re all gun owners, or we wouldn’t be reading this. But I don’t need to see this “fake news” moniker attached to what are objective facts, or read this implication that someone’s coming to take my guns and the Second Amendment allows me to own an assault rifle, or an aircraft carrier, or a bazooka. Stick to selling insurance & educating people about what to do if the worse happens – you shoot or kill another human being.
Really ? Antigun grabbers have no clue, this is about power and their desire to have it over the rest of us. How is it hypocrites all have security with these same weapons? Their arguments don’t hold up, am a veteran and an AR owner and enjoy the use for recreational purposes ! So who are the antigun freaks that have the right to tell me and infringe on my rights?
Please let me state an opinion here. If you point a gun at ME for criminal purposes, then you have assaulted me. Even if it is a single shot .22 cal variant, it then becomes an “assault” rifle. However, only in my opinion. I will not force my opinion on anyone for the sole purpose of depriving any Constitutional Right. That is only fair.
I spent a couple years in country in the wonderful South Vietnam , Republic of…..and we also used bolt action Remington rifles, and pump 12 gauge shotguns, Springfield M-14’s , even M1 Garands left over from WW 11 and Korea. A 1903 Springfield in the hands of a WW1 Dough Boy was an assault weapon when he flew out of the trench and headed for the Germans. They can call any firearm an assault weapon, but it is their reason for all this mis-interpretation that sticks in my craw ……..it is to totally disarm the population a man at a time. Then more and more folks , until we the people have no more power to stop the tyranny. To defend the costitution against all enemies, foreign AND DOMESTIC is part of the oath every military person swears to. Anyone who is against the NRA, the 2nd amendment, the ability for private citizens to protect themselves and their families is an enemy of freedom itself,……..and an enemy of mine ! In history , every country that was disarmed was taken over by totalitarianism. Do you want that here ? Wake up, America !
Don Dickson if you feel you can not control your self maybe you should surrender all your firearms thank you for your service but I’m sorry you feel the way you do but my rites don’t end with what you think or believe many a coyote would disagree that the ar 15 is for humans I belive in the 2nd amendment fully
Excellent. More of this kind of information is very helpful in understanding the propaganda that is being delivered in today’s media. Please do more Vblogs like this one.
Thanks.
Mr. Brown, “The Second Amendment allows us to own an Aircraft Carrier” ? I wasn’t aware of that, where do they sell those ? I need to get me one right away !
Mr. Brown, I am new to this forum but I have yet to see anyone trying to fearmonger about gun confiscation, no one in their right mind believes they would ever try something that batshit crazy in the first place. There are plenty other ways they could strip you of your 2A rights, they don’t need to do any confiscation, you will be able to keep your guns, they will make good paper weights and door stops.
Don Dickson I’m pretty sure that I got the same training I had . When I went through Basic training and they told us that even though the M16 will kill a person the idea was to injure the enemy because it take out 3 soldiers out of action. That was the intention.
